Network along with your classwork! Taking advantage of Goizueta student life
As working professional students, we so often get caught up in the day-to-day tactical grind of work and school. It’s easy to forget that we’re back in school again for these short few years and they absolutely fly by in the blink of an eye. As Goizueta students, we have unique opportunities to take advantage of Emory campus life with our classmates and network with professionals in diverse industries which we might not otherwise have. The working professionals MBA program office and the EvMBA social committee work hard during the year to put on fun and engaging student life events that are convenient for working professional students to attend. Below are some highlights from the past few months.
Braves game – In mid-August, Dean Erika James threw out the opening pitch at Sun Trust Park as the Atlanta Braves faced the Milwaukee Brewers. Goizueta bought tickets for students and their guests while commemorative Emory caps were given to attendees. This was a great opportunity for EvMBA students, Executive MBA students and full-time MBA students to meet and socialize at the ball park before the semester fully kicked off.
Boat Day – a few times a year, the EvMBA social committee rents pontoon boats and organizes an awesome day out on the lake. Boat day is always a great way to kick back and relax while getting some sun and socializing with your classmates for a day away from the city.
KEGS – one night a month, after evening classes let out, the EvMBA social committee buys pizza and beer for all the evening students to enjoy on the patio outside the business school. After a full day of work and three hours of class, hanging around school any longer may, understandably, be the furthest thing from your mind. KEGS, however, is by far the event that I have seen spark the most frequent conversations and networking amongst classmates.
Commerce Club semester kickoff – once per year, to kick off the school year, all EvMBA students are invited to the Commerce Club in downtown Atlanta for a celebration of the upcoming year. This is a great opportunity to socialize and network among the EvMBA classes and especially to meet the incoming cohort.
Even during the busiest times of the semester and the most hectic months at work, it’s important to remember that we are back at school for only a few short years. For many of us, this is the last time we will be students and as such, we should take advantage of these amazing opportunities to enjoy campus student life and engage with our classmates.
