Family life in Atlanta
Read in: 日本語
Hello. I am an M who is currently enrolled in the Full-Time MBA process.
This time, I would like to introduce three points about family life in Atlanta.
[How to pass daily for spouse]
Since F2 visas cannot work or go to school full-time, many people consider going to a language school first, but this time I would like to introduce the volunteer activities that my wife was doing. increase.
・ Volunteer at Emory University Hospital
This is a system where you apply online, have an orientation and an individual interview, and then work as a volunteer staff member in the hospital. If you work for 4 hours, you will get enough Voucher to eat rice. You have to pay $ 20 for the uniform first, but the people around you are kind and it seems that it was fun to hold events for volunteer staff from time to time.
・ Volunteer cooking class assistant
There is a volunteer system for instructors and assistants at the largest cooking class in Atlanta, about 10-15 minutes by car. It is necessary to take a Knife Skill class first and participate in the orientation, but if you participate as an assistant, you can get recipes for that class, you can use it at a discounted price at the in-store shop, and there are many benefits.
【childbirth】
While I was in school, my family had a big family event called the birth of my first child. Since I decided to give birth at Emory’s hospital, I can have a medical examination at the clinic on campus where GBS is also located, but the actual delivery and echography will be at Emory University Hospital Midtown.
The medical examination and childbirth itself accepted this claim, and I got the impression that it was patient-first. Since I had the same medical insurance as I did, the cost of childbirth was roughly 10%, which was a little higher than in Japan.
I also attended some classes like paid parents’ classes, but they didn’t teach me how to take a bath. Even during hospitalization, there is no kind guidance like in Japan, and after giving birth, you will be discharged from the hospital two days later and start living with your baby at home, so if you are new to this, it may be better to collect information yourself in advance.
[Pet dog]
My family brought my dog from Japan, so I would like to introduce the procedure.
·Advance preparation
The procedure in Japan was not that difficult as I was brought from Japan without rabies to the United States. It is assumed that you are given a vaccination every year and that you have an international standard microchip. There are two things to do at a veterinary clinic. It is necessary to have the blood sampled for the antibody test for rabies sent to a designated institution and to prepare the documents to be submitted to the quarantine station. When the documents are completed, contact the quarantine station, have them check the documents created by the veterinary clinic by e-mail, and make an appointment at the quarantine station at the airport on the day of your arrival in the United States.
・ About flight
Please call the airline and make a reservation for your pet. Since my house is a small dog, I got on the foot of the plane.
・ On the day of arrival in the United States
At the reserved time, you will go to the quarantine station for a simple pet health check and get the documents to be submitted locally. * Since this document is valid for 2 years, returning to Japan after the GBS program is completed will be smooth.
After that, as usual, just check in at the counter → go through the security check and board.
・ Life with pets
Many people have dogs, and I often see them even when I take a walk. There are many large dogs, but small dogs seem to be popular these days, and my dog is often talked to. Many apartments are dog-friendly, and Emory Point’s pet rent is around $ 15, and you can also use a dog run on the premises. There are many Pet waste stations on the premises, which is convenient for disposing of toilets. In addition, many hotels such as the Westin family can stay with pets, so it is possible to travel with them, and there are many places where the Pet Relief Area is also set up in the airport.
