Congratulations on your impressive win at the ITA South Regional Men’s Singles Draw! How did that victory feel, and how do you manage to balance such a rigorous athletic schedule with your business school coursework?
Thank you! Playing with the Emory jersey on always makes victories feel better, as I’m playing not only for myself but for the many people who support me day in and day out. Having had four years of experience playing college tennis while maintaining high-level studies, I believe the busy schedule has become a part of my life. I think being able to keep doing what I love outside the classroom motivates me to tackle schoolwork more effectively. This, of course, requires setting priorities and managing my time well every single day.
What skills have you learned from your athletic endeavors that you find applicable to your studies in business school?
The main thing I would say is to find solutions rather than make excuses when conflicts arise. Some days are busier than others, but I recognize that life is about more than just schoolwork. I do my best to plan my days and prioritize what needs to be done each week. Additionally, constantly being under pressure on the tennis court helps me perform at my best when those high-pressure moments occur outside of tennis as well.
How do you prioritize your commitments and maintain a healthy work-life balance?
As I briefly mentioned in the first question, for me, a healthy work-life balance includes tennis. I see it as a time to exercise, relax, clear my mind, and do what I love the most. Tennis has been part of my daily routine for the past 15+ years, and I find that it contributes to my daily life in many ways. I also have to highlight the supportive coaches here at Emory, who understand my passion for the game and always do their best to help me balance and prioritize my commitments.
Have there been any memorable moments or experiences that stand out to you in your dual role as a student-athlete in business school?
As a graduate student who has only been at Emory University for a few months, I would have to mention my recent win at the ITA South Regional as a highlight. However, for me, the moments spent in practice, at tournaments, or even traveling with the team are more memorable than the victories. Ultimately, I believe the reason I continue to play college tennis after all these years isn’t just about the wins, but the memories made along the way.
