Take me out to the ballgame!
Get ready Goizueta Sports fans – the new Braves Stadium is open for business!
Goizueta MBA Programs had an opportunity to attend the Braves home opener on Friday, April 14, 2017 and we had a fabulous time. Not only did the Braves win 5-4 over the San Diego Padres, the general admission tickets were only $10! The ticket included entrance to the game as well as two drink tickets to Terrapin Brewery in The Battery, the booming new area outside the stadium. Before first pitch and the sensational opening ceremony, the MBA classes mixed and mingled while enjoying craft beer and the beautiful Atlanta spring weather. Regardless of your interest in the actual sport of baseball (let me tell you, my interest ebbs and flows), there is something for you at SunTrust Park.

As in my previous ‘Life at Goizueta’ blog, the first focus is always food. The classic ballpark fare such as hotdogs, peanuts, and an array of lite beers is available for purchase. However, SunTrust and the Braves have done some advanced market analysis and understand that not only a winning team brings people to the ballpark, but also new and interesting food is required. Beyond yummy local BBQ favorites, such as Fox Brothers and Smokey Q, there are tasty tacos from Taco Factory and delicious dumplings from International

Don’t miss out on the Turner Field returners: Chick-fil-A, Waffle House, and the line that is just as long (if not longer) for H+F Burger. We had a great time noshing on all the new park has to offer.
Next up, transportation. When the stadium moved to Cobb County, everyone’s biggest concern, after the Braves had a few terrible seasons, was the transportation infrastructure around the stadium. A few of us carpooled to the game and bought a pre-paid parking pass, but most students Uber-ed because of the lack of public transportation. Fortunately, Uber has a strategic partnership with the Braves, and from what I have heard from my cohort, no one had a problem with arriving or leaving the stadium.
Whether you love baseball or cannot sit through an inning, you will have fun at SunTrust Park.
I am glad I attended the Braves home opener as one of the last events with my classmates at Goizueta Business School. As our time comes to a close at Goizueta, we will always have shared memories of cheering on the Braves to a win and celebrating new beginnings.
