Engage in healthcare.

The mission of Goizueta Healthcare Association is to build a professional network and provide an extracurricular education for students interested in the business of healthcare. In order to do so, our programming will revolve around five main objectives:

  • Educating members about the latest trends in the rapidly evolving industry via expert speakers and knowledge sharing
  • Preparing students for healthcare recruitment by offering interview support, company exposure, and a direct channel to Goizueta alumni
  • Creating a culture of shared learning though collaborations with Goizueta clubs and non-MBA Emory programs
  • Expanding the presence of healthcare-focused GBS students through participation in national case competitions
  • Promoting students’ physical, mental, spiritual, and financial well-being

Healthcare 20.40 Futuring Competition

Join us by participating in the Healthcare Futuring Competition! Futuring is a business concept where you build a case for what the healthcare industry will look like in the future and predict what the cumulative effect of long-term outcomes will be. Essentially, what do you think the healthcare industry will look like in 2040 and why?

Healthcare Organizations Across Emory and Greater Atlanta

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)

The Emory Chapter of IHI Open School is an Emory-wide organization representing students from all disciplines who are interested in advancing healthcare improvement and patient safety  in the next generation of health professionals worldwide. 

The chapter’s overall goal is to connect people to 1) opportunities to get involved in quality improvement projects across Emory campus and in surrounding communities, 2) educational resources including free online courses offered by the IHI OS and other events on campus and, 3) build and mobilize a community of inter-professionals interested in healthcare improvement.

Advancing Healthcare Innovation in Africa (AHIA)

AHIA is a selective accelerator program for healthcare entrepreneurs from Africa. All entrepreneurs will participate in AHIA-Educate, a 3-day workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa where they will compete for selection into AHIA-NEXT, a semester-long engagement to help innovators reach the next step in their entrepreneurship journey.
In parallel, AHIA provides Emory science and business students the opportunity to engage in experiential learning and training in lab-to-market pathways.

Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM)

At the intersection of healthcare, medical research, and law, the Emory UAEM seeks to advocate for research at Emory into neglected diseases and contract stipulations which enable affordable production and vending of drugs in lower income countries. We also report on and seek to make easily understandable: healthcare laws, the pharmaceutical industry, and new developments in the fight against neglected diseases.

Emory Global Health Institute (EGHI)

EGHI connects Emory University, students and its global partners to improve health and well-being around the world. Student have the opportunity to be involved in an array of programs and research projects to inform and inspire global change.

Health Students Taking Action Together (H-STAT)

H-STAT is a student run non-profit organization that engages professional students throughout the state in community service, education and advocacy to improve the health of all Georgians. 

With the vision of creating a healthier Georgia through the development of professional leaders who effect change through interdisciplinary collaboration and community outreach.

Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives (GAHE)

GAHE is a profession organization committed to the development of leadership skills, knowledge exchange, and facilitation of networking opportunities for members. GAHE members include a broad range of healthcare executives, professionals, consultants, faculty and students of healthcare administration programs. 

Emory Biotech Consulting Club (EBCC)

The Emory Biotech Consulting Club (EBCC) connects students from a variety of backgrounds to projects and startups that bring scientific innovation to the market. EBCC offers hands-on, volunteer consulting experiences and recruitment preparation workshops. This club works to match interested student-members with innovators from the Emory and Georgia Tech communities to tackle the next big hurdles in innovation. 

Club members will be able to apply their current expertise, but also develop new skill sets via experiential learning in alternative disciplines that improves networking and career prospects.

Case Competitions

SEPTEMBER

Humana-Mays Healthcare Analytics Case Competition

Texas A&M Mays Business School in partnership with Humana presents an annual Humana-Mays Healthcare Analytics Case Competition. This competition offers an opportunity for U.S. master’s students to showcase their analytical skills and solve a real-world business problem for Humana utilizing real data. The competition commences in September, and ends November. The monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three teams of the competition in December.

2021 Prize Pool:

1st place: $50,000

2nd place: $20,000

3rd place: $10,000

OCTOBER

UNC Healthcare Case Competition

Graduate students across disciplines (business, public health, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, dentistry, etc.) are encouraged to leverage their unique educational and career experiences to develop an innovative solution to a healthcare issue! Teams must consist of 4-5 graduate students with at least two disciplines represented. Email Kristen Koepsell (MBA Healthcare Club President) at Kristen_Koepsell@kenan-flagler.unc.edu to register.

Internal Round Prize: $1,000

External Round 1st Place Prize: $10,000

Penn Healthcare Case Competition 

The Penn Healthcare Case Competition  (PHCC) showcases the troubleshooting analytical and entrepreneurship skills of talented  students who are passionate about careers in consulting, finance and other pharmaceutical/biotechnology-related industries. No prior consulting experience is required!

2nd Annual Gilead Pharma Case Competition

Gilead Sciences is hosts an annual Pharma Business Case Competition tailored for MBA, MPH, PharmD and MS (biotech-related) students with finalist presentations to be held in November. Registration in October with teams of 4 people.

1st place: $10,000 + 2022 Summer  Internship at Gilead for each team member  

2nd place: $5,000

3rd place: $3,000

NOVEMBER

Emory Global Health Case Competition: Applications open November – December

The Intramural Emory Global Health Case Competition provides multidisciplinary teams of Emory students with an opportunity to address a real-world global health challenge in a competitive and collaborative environment. Student teams work together for a week to analyze a case challenge and develop a comprehensive programmatic solution by incorporating perspectives from multiple disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Teams of 4-6 students
  • Teams must be comprised of students enrolled in at least three different Emory schools

Timeline:

  • January 28: Case challenge released
  • February 1-3: Virtual case advisor sessions 
  • February 4: Case solutions due
  • February 5: Competition presentation day

2022 Prize Pool

  • 1st place: $3,000
  • 2nd place: $2,000
  • 3rd place: $1,000

BAHM Case Competition hosted by Baylor University: Registration in November

Students across BAHM’s 21-member schools have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively and compete for cash prizes as they envision the “Hospital of the Future.” This case competition will be held in a hybrid format.

Team Options

  • 3-4 students
  • Can be across different programs as long as 1 student is in an MBA program
  • In lieu of a Program Team, programs may select 1 or 2 students to compete in a Joint International Team (JIT), where they will attend a mixer with students across the world to form teams.
  • If you would like to be placed on an international team, please e-mail Sonia Sharma (sonia.sharma@emory.edu) before registering. Placement on a global team will be on a first come first serve basis, since Emory has limited spots.

Timeline:

  • November 30th: Team Registration Deadline
  • April 7-8, 2022: Competition Dates 

2022 Prize Pool

  • 1st place: $10,000 for program team or $11,000 for an international team
  • 2nd place: $5,000 or $6000 for an international team
  • 3rd place: $2,500 or $3500 for an international team
  • Peoples’ Choice: $1,000 or $2000 for an international team (based on peer voting on the one-page summaries)
